Lily's ANZAC Day Poem

Introducing Lily Graham - Room 10’s very talented word wizard! Here is her ANZAC Day poem written last week. ENJOY!

ANZAC Day
This was like no other ANZAC day!
Up at 4.30 so that we could get there by 5.
Today we remember the ones we lost at war.
The ones that gave there life for our county.
The family that lost someone special.
Lest we forget the soldiers all around the world.
This is a day to remember the ones we lost!’
The mother's words, ‘is he gone.’
You can shed tears that he is gone.
Or you can smile because he has lived.
You can close your eyes and pray that he will come back.
Or you can open your eyes and see all that he has left.
Your heart can be empty because you can't see him. `
Or you can be full of the love that you shared.
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday.
Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.
You can remember he and only that she is gone.
Or you can cherish her memory and let it live on.
You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back
Or you can do what he would want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.
A mother's words, ‘is he gone?’
We all have different feelings on ANZAC day.
Lest we forget
