Person for a day!

For our first piece of writing, we wrote a piece about who we would be for a day and why. The students had to plan and use their plan to write about the person/animal/character they would be for one day. This gave me great insight not only to writing skills but to their personalities.

A day being famous. A day being a professional netball player and having the feeling of being recognized by your fans. A day having a great coach and lots of netball friends. Getting photos and interviews taken every time you have a game. When you walk down the streets everyone notices you.  A day being a superstar. That's the life for me.

Getting to play for New Zealand would be such an amazing experience! I would wake up early in morning with a lot of nerves and excitement in my tummy. Then I would make sure I have a very energizing breakfast! Meeting my team at the arena and seeing people who are inspired gathering in would be a dream come true! Everybody is so enthusiastic dressed up in there black and white clothes.  I would play centre position and watch the crowd get wound up when its 30s to the end of the game and score is so close. I would feel so thrilled as people cheer and scream from above.

Being famous also means getting noticed in the street! People run up to me, asking for my autograph, my picture and giving me heaps of questions! Asking me about how I became a netballer player, how I came to be in the Silver Ferns and what's it like to have netball in your life everyday. People get so excited! Its all about practice I say replying to all the people that run up to me. As I leave from the first group not long after that another group of girls and boys come up to me. Hitting me with more questions, autographs and pictures. It takes a long time to finally get to the place I am going! But luckily that only happens 2-7 days of the week.

Netball all day everyday! My day routine would mainly include netball. I would get up. Go for a run to help me keep fit on the netball court. Do some netball shots and drills. Have breakfast. Do more netball drills and shots. After lunch I would meet my team for training. That would include lots of fitness like press ups, more running, balance and heaps of other work to help us be the best we can. What hard work. But it will have all payed off when we beat Australia. I would then go home and get ready for nighttime. Dinner, shower and then finally bed!

A day being famous. A day being a professional netball player and having the feeling of being recognised by your fans. A day having a great coach and lots of netball friends. Getting photos and interviews taken every time you have a game. When you walk down the street everyone notices you. A day being a superstar. That's the life for me.

Inter-house Swimming Sports

What a fantastic evening we had down at the swimming sports.  Team Sheppard were dressed in red and had the BEST house spirit.  We were all cheering each other on and had a great time competing against each other and the other Year 7's in Hillary House.  Our house chant/song was awesome (check out the lyrics below), thanks to Ben for composing this and coming along to play on the guitar.  Well done on your efforts Sheppard.

This house

The best house at hni

Place Value Maths

Today we have looked at place value and reading numbers, for some this is a concept they have a great understanding of so to engage their problem solving skills I challenged them to find a way to solve the unknown 5 digit number in just 5 guesses. This was great fun and all students were actively involved and engaged in their learning.

Turangawaewae

As part of our inquiry "Turangawaewae: a place to stand", we had a quick brainstorm using padlet to identify our prior knowledge of the things we know that make us New Zealanders and part of HNI.

Our global learning intention is: We are learning about our connection to Aotearoa NZ and how we feel empowered by this.

Non Stop Cricket

In preparation for our first lunchtime sport event we have been refining our skills in non-stop cricket.  We have some great sportsmanship in this class and great sportspeople.  I look forward to seeing how well we will work together in our team sports.

Getting to know me.

As one of our first pieces of writing, Room 12 are constructing some infortainment.  We are learning to inform and entertain our audience.

The task was to share information about yourself in an interesting and entertaining way.  Making choices about how to entertain the audience and showcasing any digital knowledge that we have.

Welcome to Room 12

Hello and welcome to Room 12 2015.

We have had an exciting and fun start to the year.  We have worked really hard and come together as a house on a variety of occasions.  We have had Sheppard Tabloids where we played Vortex throw, tug of war, 3 man race and patter tennis relays.

We have also been taught the school song by Year 8 leaders.  Jaevarn showed us how to do the Haka and Nicky, Aramata, Renee, Niamh and Ashlee teaching the girls the actions.  Today we are having a Sheppard Scavenger Hunt around the school.

Today we participated in a scavenger hunt around the school.  This helped us to orientate our way around the school and take notice of exactly where we may find information and teachers.  Students worked in teams made up of a person from a different class in Sheppard to ensure we are all getting to know each other.  It was a great afternoon!
