Kids Voting 2017 - Politics

Today, we cast our vote in Rm 10! We had some research to do into what policies different parties were campaigning with for the upcoming 2017 election. The website www.onthefence.co.nz asked us a series of questions abut what we believe is important in our country we live in.  It challenged our beliefs, mindset and values we consider important. Discussing how the party and electorate vote works enlightened us about who our local candidate could be, (not necessarily in the party we feel we best align to). So here are Rm 10's results that will be collated with the entire HNI population next week...

Party Vote
NZ First 1, Conservative 0, Labour Party 5, Green Party 4, National Party 10, Act 0, Ban 1080 1, Maori Party 1, NZ Outdoors Party 1, The Opportunities Party 2.

Electorate Vote
Joe Kairau 3, Roger Larkins 0, Anna Lork 9, Chris Perley 3, Dick Ryan 1, Allister Tosh 0 & Lawrence Yule 10

HNI's New Mural

Nicole has been busy after lunch for the past couple of weeks. She has been creating a masterpiece that will be on display at HNI very shortly with two other year 7 students.  The concept, planning, design and aesthetics are amazing and it has turned out exceptionally well.

Speeches 2017

This years task was to plan, prepare and deliver a persuasive speech about our term 3 inquiry topic; Healthy Bodies, Strong Minds. The quality of speeches this year was exemplary and we all enjoyed listening to the wide range of topics that were chosen. Congratulations to Kennedy and Adam who will move forward to the 'Sheppard finals' next Tuesday. Highly Commended 2017; Lily, Evan, Jordan, Shamus & Imogen. Stereotypes

Do stereotypes exist in Rm 10? Today we moved around the walls in our classroom examining closely photos of people we had never met before. Our challenge was to create a profile of that person based on what we could see. Age, marital status, occupation, likes and dislikes were some aspects we had to consider. After creating our profile, we read the actual profile of very real people. The dangers of stereotyping include;
·         you judge people unfairly
·         you might miss out on a possible friendship
·         you might patronise people or be frightened of them
·         you might treat them unfairly
·         you would appear ignorant.

Rm 10 Lunch Time Sport

It was a gorgeous day to be outside for lunch time sports Today was our second game for the term and touch wood... we are on a winning streak so far! Many thanks to Luca and Brooke who are leading our class with coordinating this activity. Bring on the end of the term to see who the Term 3 Handball champions are going to be!
