Todays tech challenge was about being creative with possibilities. We had a packet of spaghetti pasta and a packet of marshmallows. Our brief was to spend 5 minutes planning about structures and different ways of using our resources. We then had to construct a tower in 20 minutes that was as tall as we could possibly make it. Some groups considered the strength of the pasta really well and their plans reflected this. Two groups had an initial plan that did not work out but were able to adapt/modify their design as time ticked by. Congratulations to Lily, Sameer, Sofia and Sunshine who had constructed a tower standing 58cm tall. So who will shine tomorrow with more creative thinking?

Room 10 Passion Projects
Today we had our Room 10 Passion Project presentations. The challenge was to convey to our audience where our passion stemmed from, an idea about a problem that we could creatively solve and an invention to combat that problem or to enhance an existing product. Luca is very keen on bike riding however his parents have concerns when he is on steep terrain. Luca is a dare devil and has come off his bike more than once with the treks and courses that he loves to bike. His innovation was about using a GPS and a sensor to preempt pedalling speed with upcoming and approaching jumps. His level of thinking was very critical and creative and he went about solving a real life problem. I am certain this concept could very easily be turned into reality Luca and would definitely prevent injuries such as yours happening!

Home-learning Tasks - Term 2
There are some amazing people in Room 10 who have really gone above and beyond with their home-learning already this term. Congratulations to Luca and Brooke who were the shining stars for week 1. We had fun celebrating their achievement and being inspired with what is possible when we set our sights high.
Here is a copy of Brooke's 'changing the tyre' task she chose for week 2. It is exemplary and I even learnt a trick or two I was not aware of so... thank you Brooke!

Reading Challenge - Hell Pizza #nurture/a/love/of/reading
It is so exciting to see all of the Room 10 learners who continue to make the most of opportunities available to them. Jordan, Kennedy, Shamus, Imogen, Blake, Eden, Ollie, Nicole, Keira, Sunshine and Adam all put their hand up to be involved with 2017 'Hell Reading Challenge.' Quite simply, they need to read 7 chapter books from HNI's library, be able to answer questions about their book and ensure they are keeping up with reading material. After completing 7 books, they can redeem their reading wheel at a Hells pizza brunch within NZ to receive a complementary pizza. Nurturing a love of reading certainly opens so many doors with authors of enjoyment, genres of reading and the ability to balance both reading for enjoyment and to source information. Keep it up people!
