Te inoi whakamutunga – Closing Karakia

The sun was shining and it was the perfect opportunity to head outdoors for our learning. Jordan, Zahra, Oceania and Kennedy grabbed the chalk and created an enormous word chant of our closing karakia that we were learning. Now that we have our opening/morning karakia mastered, the challenge is to get our one for the end of the day polished as well. In 20 minutes, these learners achieved a lot!

Nicole Lives, Breathes & Walks our HNI School Values

Here is an example of a young lady in Rm 10 who is a terrific ambassador of our HNI School values. She completed a home-learning task in week 4 which was above and beyond the call of duty. Nicole showed me the receipt and acknowledgement from Starship this morning before school started of the funds raised on behalf of her planning, preparation and execution. Nicole, you are a shining star!

What I am doing :

SERVICE - CHARITY

    Identify a charity or great cause to support. Plan a mini-fundraising task where you could raise a small amount of funds for the charity. The SPCA, St John’s, a sports club WHATEVER! Do you plan to sell lemons, bake brownie, organise a raffle? Do keep it on the ‘small side.’

The gameplan:

Me and my dad will make brownies and sell them at  school

To do this we will use the recipe my dad uses for his cafe.

I will try to make as much money as possible.

Explanation:

On thursday 25th of may i will sell brownies outside room 10! (with the help of friends)

At lunch eating all through play hopefully i will make the estimated $10 - &25 or more!

The brownies will be 1 dollar and hopefully more than one person will come.

Through the week i will be very busy preparing the brownies and getting the buzz about my sale and my cause (why i’m doing it) as much as i can.

I am sure people will like the brownies for they are delicous ( cause i’ve already tasted some!)

I really hope that people will  come like I said I want to spread the word as much as possible and try give as much money to the starship foundation because at my old primary school  a girl got cancer and got sent there and so do lots of other kids so it's super important that i make some sort of contribution and help even if it's just $25 dollars.

That's why on thursday i try to make as much money as possible and have a lot of fun doing it.

Eg: making brownies, designing posters and selling the brownies with my friends ( the fun  part!).

Kaleb We Are Thinking About You!

Thank you so much to Rm 10 and their families for being so generous with their koha today. We had  mufti day and sausage sizzle to raise funds to support Kaleb and his family whilst he is in Starship hospital. $82.60 was just the gold coins and then we all raced out the door at lunch time to buy sausages. We are a very caring and thoughtful bunch of young adults that thought seriously about supporting a great cause today. Well done Mrs Ellmore and Rm 12 for making this idea become reality!

Self Management/Managing Self - Rm 10 Qualified Learners

Room 10 has 3 super star students that are busy creating a resource for students to think more about managing their own learning. Maverick, Caleb & Blake have created this Powtoon which clearly shows some steps that need careful consideration. They have done a stellar job and I know they too are now using more 'Managing Self' language with all areas of their learning. They are all Powtoon experts so if you need any assistance in learning how to use this presentation tool, don't hesitate to email/contact them.

Before they created their Powtoon, they used coggle to plan their concept map from an initial 'fast and furious' brainstorming session. Coggle is a great web2 tool to use when concept mapping. Check it out!
